Quotations:

“Everything in moderation, including moderation.” — popularly attributed to Oscar Wilde but I haven’t found a citation.

This one is interesting because it is one of my favorite quotations — it has always appealed to me, even before I found epicureanism — but it’s not clear who said it and when.

I am interested in hearing any citations or opinions on where it comes from: other proposed sources include Julia Child and Benjamin Franklin, while the phrase “everything in moderation” is from antiquity. The inscription Meden Agan (μηδὲν ἄγαν) — “nothing in excess” was inscribed over the temple of Apollo at Delphi.

To me “Everything in moderation, including moderation” is perfectly epicurean — be moderate to the extent that it brings you maximum pleasure, and no more.
