"All things in moderation..."

“Everything in moderation, including moderation.” – popularly attributed to Oscar Wilde but I haven’t found a citation.

This one is interesting because it is one of my favorite quotations – it has always appealed to me, even before I found epicureanism – but it’s not clear who said it and when.

I am interested in hearing any citations or opinions on where it comes from: other proposed sources include Julia Child and Benjamin Franklin, while the phrase “everything in moderation” is from antiquity.

To me this is perfectly epicurean – be moderate to the extent that it brings you maximum pleasure, and no more.
